James D. “Jim” Cottongim of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on September 4, 2024, at the age of 84 years old. He was born in Acorn, Kentucky on January 22, 1940, to the late Joseph and Dora (Rogers) Cottongim. Jim worked for General Motors Truck & Bus for 30 years before retiring in the Shipping and Receiving Department. He was active in the Masonic lodge and was a member of Lodge # 723 F & AM, a member of the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, and the Murat Shrine. Jim was a Past Master of the Groveland, Indiana Masonic Lodge. He was loved by many and will be missed. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (Dodge) Cottongim, his daughters, Sandra (Keith) Hartz, and Tracy Cottongim. Grandchildren, James Hartz, Brittany (Damon) Baker, his great grandchildren, Dean Baker and Brantley Baker. He is also survived by his brothers, Kenneth (Judy) Cottongim and Vearl Cottongim as well as his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Thompson, Ethel Smith, Christine Rayborn, Audrey Quearry, and his brothers, Elmer Lee Cottongim and his twin, Harold Cottongim. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Flanner Buchanan Floral Park. There will be an additional visitation on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 11:00am-12:00pm with the funeral service there at 12:00pm.
