James Carl Mattingly, 83, of Greenfield, passed away at home on Friday, March 3, 2017. He was born on October 14, 1933 in Indianapolis to the late Adrian Joseph and Mabel L. (Fleming) Mattingly. Jim attended Arsenal Tech High School and left before graduation to join the U.S. Air Force. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged after 8 years of service. Jim went to work as a civilian for the Communications Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison; where he retired in 1993 after 33 years of service. Following his retirement he was proud to have earned his GED. Jim enjoyed watching college basketball, especially IU and Notre Dame; he also enjoyed watching football. However, his favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Katrina A. (Rosenbaum) Mattingly; children, Carla (Tim) Ferner, Mark Mattingly and Lynn A. (Brian) Mattingly-Jarvis; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his brother, Joseph Glenn (Mary) Mattingly. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dencil “Buck” Mattingly; and sister, Mary “Margie” Roberts. Visitation for Mr. Mattingly will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 4-8pm at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East. Funeral services will take place Thursday at 11am, also at the funeral home. Entombment with Military Honors will be in Washington Park East Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
