James A. Nye of Greenfield died on January 5, 2021 at the age of 86.
He was born June 3, 1934 in Beech Grove, IN to the late Frances and Mary Bridget Nye.
James attended Saint Patrick Elementary. He then attended Sacred Heart High School where a couple of his many accomplishments included being named President of his Senior Class, as well as being named Captain of their undefeated football team. During his time at Sacred Heart he made many friends and long and lasting memories. From those memories came many great stories; stories we never got tired of listening to. For all of you that were part of those wonderful stories and are reading this, we thank you. He continued his education at Indiana Central, again being fortunate to play the sport he loved and enjoying many lifelong memories. After leaving Indiana Central he was hired by the Eli Lilly Company, where he was employed for 37 years.
Dad loved his family; spending as much time with them as possible was his priority. He loved Notre Dame football and anything Notre Dame related for that matter. He cherished Saturdays in the fall watching his Irish on TV. Speaking as his son and for my two brothers, we cherished it even more. Dad loved the outdoors. and loved to hunt in his earlier years. He loved to fish, (and talking about fish stories) he had a bunch. He looked forward to seeing pictures of the next big fish his great grandson Chris caught. He loved playing golf, and we loved playing with him. Dad loved a challenge; he loved staying busy. During the later years, Dad and Mom enjoyed going to Florida. They spent a few months in the winter with friends he could not wait to see; friends that have too passed away. Bill, Burt, and a few I am sure I have missed are now back together. Bartenders Waitresses in Heaven beware.
In closing, as was mentioned earlier, Dad loved his entire family. He loved the all the times we were able to gather. He loved the Holidays; he loved the 500 party. He loved the laughter and the smiles of all involved in making those gatherings so special. To all those people, we thank you. With your smiles it put a smile on his face that will be remembered forever.
May God watch over you Dad. You are loved and will be missed forever.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Jean Nye; children Michael, Kevin, Mark, and Kelly; Daughter-In-Law Sonja Bowsher-Nye; Grandson Brandon and wife Candace Bowsher; and great grandchildren Aiden, Chris and Rylie Bowsher, Catlin, Nicholas, and Donovan and many more loving family members.
