James A. McDonald, 89 of Carmel, passed away Saturday, December 24. Jim was born August 15, 1933, in Glasgow, Scotland. He was a graduate of Glasgow University where he obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering. He also received his Master’s in Electrical Engineering at Purdue University.
In 1962 he was offered a job with RCA Indianapolis to design televisions. Jim was also General Manager, R&D at Thomson Consumer Electronics. He retired in 1999 after 37 years.
Jim was a keen sailor at Indianapolis Sailing Club and served as commodore in 2004. He also loved to play Bridge at Indianapolis Bridge Club and obtained Life Master in 2006.
Jim is survived by Marion, his wife of 61 years, daughter Fiona O’Connor (Jeff), son Andy McDonald, five grandsons, Alex (Lalita), Brian (Nikki), Matthew McDonald, Will and Collin O’Connor, and Dorothy McDonald. He is preceded in death by his sister, Irene Smeaton.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date.
