Jack Everett Moorhead

September 23, 1929 — April 8, 2020

New Palestine, Indiana

Jack E. Moorhead passed away peacefully on April 8, 2020.  He was born on September 23, 1929 to Carson and Frances (DeVol) Moorhead.  He was a graduate of Brookside School no. 54, and Arsenal Technical High School.

Jack was an army veteran, serving in the 2nd Armored Division, otherwise known as “Hell on Wheels”.  After his active duty, he married his high school sweetheart, Martha Louise Auch in 1950 at the New Jersey Street Methodist Church in downtown Indianapolis.  They were married almost 67 years, until Martha’s passing in 2017.  They were a very devoted couple, blessed with a large circle of family and friends.

Jack was employed by Indianapolis Power & Light for 41 years, retiring in 1991.  He also worked part-time for many years in ticket sales for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  He was a member of Englewood Masonic Lodge no. 715, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Indianapolis 500 Oldtimers Club, and Old Bethel United Methodist Church.

Jack and Martha had two sons, Karl (Susan), and Kevin (Kathy), five grandchildren, Kristina (Ryan), Ken (Ashley), Katie (Al), Laura (Josh), Griffin, and great-granddaughter Kate.  In addition to his loving wife, he was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Martha Koenig Moorhead.   Jack and Martha were very active parents, participating in PTA events, scouting activities, and attending various school events for their sons.  This pattern did not change as grandparents, as they were frequent spectators whenever possible at their grandchildren’s activities.

Jack’s favorite pastimes were traveling, family gatherings, sharing a meal and conversation with numerous groups of friends, and following the exploits of several family members on the Indianapolis Fire Department.

A private service for the immediate family will be held for Jack, with a public memorial planned for a later date.

Jack was a big fan of the Indianapolis Fire Department, and also a huge lover of dogs, so the family requests any memorial gifts be sent to either of the follow organizations:

The Indianapolis Firebuffs at indianapolisfirebuffs.org.   They provide direct support and canteen service for firemen in the line of duty.

The Frenzy Animal Rescue at frenzyrescue.com.  They are a local animal rescue in New Palestine, and the source of Jack’s last dachshund and best friend, Heidi.
