Nelson Jones

Nelson Jones, 90, passed away on February 10, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on June 12, 1934, Nelson was a 1952 graduate of George Washington High School. 

He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. His career started at Allisons, then he found his niche working as a sales representative for multiple companies. Ultimately a charter bus driver part-time for IV Coach and Miller Transportation, he connected with many people and collected many stories! A man of faith and service, Nelson was an elder at Ben Davis Christian Church and played a key role in its early growth. He led youth groups, prepared countless church dinners and sang in the choir and men’s quartet. Nelson had a passion for watching all types of sports and listening to music of all genres. He loved reading the newspaper to stay informed about local restaurants and events. He had a well-known sweet tooth and was a regular at Chick-fil-A for breakfast, where he shared laughter and conversation with his buddies. Always up for an adventure, he proudly kept up with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. His outgoing and giving nature left a lasting impact on those around him. 

He is survived by his high school sweetheart, married for 71 years, Ruby Dorothea Jones (Davis); his children, Scott (Irene) Jones, Jim (Regina) Jones, and Julie (Kaden) Dulla; grandchildren Alexandra Jones and Dillon (Britani) Frederickson; and great-grandchildren Bailey, Addison, Beckhem, Raleigh, and Rowan. He also leaves behind several cherished nieces and nephews, and a beloved sister-in-law, Rita. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther T. Jones and Lillian V. (Thompson), as well as his brother Eskell T. Jones (Evelyn). Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 7:00 p.m., at Flanner and Buchanan, 2950 N High School Road. Nelson’s warmth, humor, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him
