Ivan Grauaug

June 5, 1931 — June 29, 2021

Ivan Grauaug passed away at home, surrounded by his family on June 29, 2021.  He was the perfect example of a gentleman, and of a life well-lived.  He was born on June 5, 1931 to Tatjana and Serge Grauaug in Budapest, Hungary.  Ivan told many stories of his family’s escape from Hungary during World War 2, and this will to live served him well throughout his 90 years.  His sister, Irene Montana Scott was born during this time, and she preceded him in death.  In 1950, while in a Displaced Persons Camp in Munich, Germany, he met the love of his life, Ona Zukaite, who preceded him in death.  They wanted to marry in the United States, so they did just that on August 26, 1950.  Ivan and Ona had one son, Vicktor, who also preceded him in death.  They lived in South Bend, IN for 63 years, until Ona’s death in 2013.  He retired from Raco in South Bend in 1996, after a long and prosperous career.  Ivan was an active member of the South Bend Elks Lodge 235, and had many friends there.  He was very proud of his term as Exalted Ruler, and the many years he and Ona devoted to the lodge.  Ivan is survived by his granddaughter Tami Sinnett (Chuck) of Carmel, IN,  granddaughter Amanda Grauaug of Florida, niece Maureen Moreno of California, great grandchildren Jason, Alicia, and Andrew Sinnett, Paige Graham, Joseph Rinehart, Chloe Bontrager, one great great granddaughter, Claudia, and two cousins Liz Tasler and Gabe Cole of South Bend. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Carmel, IN.
