Ina Jones

Ina Jones, 95, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away May 18, 2019. She was born December 27, 1923 to Cumberland County, Kentucky to Charles and Lois Hughes.

On September 23, 1939, she married Robert Groce. Shortly after starting their family, he was called to serve in WWII. Ina and their two children moved to Indiana in April of 1941 to find work. Robert was tragically killed serving his country while in France on January 1, 1945. In winter of 1945, she found love with Robert “Bob” Woolwine. The pair were married on January 23, 1946 and grew their family by seven. Ina sadly became a widow again on February 11, 1979. Many years later, Ina was blessed to find love again. She married widower James Jones in 1996, they spent 4 beautiful years together until his passing in 2000. She proudly worked for the University of Indianapolis as a dishwasher and cook until her retirement in 1982. She loved quilting, gardening, reupholstering furniture, and collecting dolls. She also had the biggest love and appreciation for the color pink; who else would have a pink shed in their backyard or paint their car pink? Ina enjoyed flea markets, garage sales, and was a very talented painter. She lived a fulfilling 95 years on earth and her passing leaves an empty space in the hearts of those who were blessed enough to meet her, she was truly one of a kind.

Ina is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lois; husbands, Robert Groce, Robert “Bob” Woolwine, and James Jones; children, Sheila (Phil Shafer, surviving) Woolwine and Bobby (Becky, surviving) Woolwine; twin sister, Nina; siblings, Daisy, Robby, Ruby, and Belle. Surviving to cherish her memory are children, Leslie (Geneva) Groce, June (the late Bud) Wade, Carol (the late Richard) Mustard, Cynthia (Greg) Pear, Daryl Woolwine, Tanya (Wayne Spaulding) Potts, Lisa (Bobby) Bishop; siblings, Wylie, June, Emma, and Linda; 19 grandchildren; as well as a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Family and friends are welcome to visit Thursday, May 23 from 10-12 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46221. Funeral services will take place at 12 PM. Ina will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens immediately following services.
