Imogene Sizemore Gilbrech

May 29, 1933 — April 1, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

Imogene Sizemore Gilbrech , 87 years of age, passed away at home on Thursday, April 1, 2021 in the presence of her family. Imogene was born on May 29, 1933, the fourth of eleven children in Waynesburg, Kentucky (Highland Community) and moved to Indianapolis to live with one of her sisters when she was eighteen. She married her husband Don on August 30, 1952 and has raised her family here.

Though she had a few jobs here and there, Imogene spent the bulk of her life as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Under eligibility of her husband’s service in Korea, she became a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary – LaVelle-Gossett Post 908 in 1956 and remained active for over sixty years. She served as President and was the Auxiliary’s Conductress for twenty plus years. She remained a Lifetime Member until her death.  She was also a member of the Auxiliary to the American Legion, Wayne Post #64 for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years, Donald Gilbrech and her companion of fourteen years, John J Jones;  parents Shafter Sizemore and Stella Flannery Sizemore as well as brothers;  Marion, Roy and George Sizemore,  and sisters; Hettie Reynolds, Mary Lee Banther and Joyce Hampton.

Imogene is survived by her four children: Vicki Alderman (Jim), Donna Rudzinski –Miller (Fiance’ Tim Hudson), Raymond Gilbrech (Teresa) and Patrick Gilbrech (April); Brothers: Paul, Ralph (Betty); Sisters:  Ruth Sizemore (Jack) and Barbara Casey (Doug); Brother-in-law Jim Banther and Sister-in-law Marie Gilbrech Posey.

God also blessed her with guardianship of two “extra children”: Gary Bain (Harriet – both deceased) and Phyllis Bain Johnson (Dave – deceased); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and as you may guess, an abundance of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank everyone for their continued support and prayers during a very difficult year, not just for us but for all. We would also like to sincerely thank Transistions, the Hospice Service that helped Imogene successfully remain at home. Many should be acknowledged at Transitions but a special thank you is sent out to Julie, Roxanne, Amy, Kristi and Tammy. Very personal thanks to our niece, Tina Starnes whose love and attention at the end was so appreciated. May they be continually blessed for the heart they share with others. It couldn’t have been done without their support.

Rest well Mom – see you at the gathering of the Saints!
