Ilija Maracic, 64, of Indianapolis, passed away on December 15, 2022. He was born on September 26, 1958, in Kakanj, Bosnia, to parents, Franjo and Lucia (Stojcic) Maracic.
Ilija married the love of his life, Ana (Andric) Maracic, in March of 1978, she survives.
After Ilija completed high school, he worked as a coal miner for over 20 years. When he was young, he fought in the Civil War in Croatia and afterwards decided to move to Germany, back to Croatia, and then making the final decision to move his family to the US to settle down and to give his family the loving and prospering life they deserve.
Ilija was a caring man who was always there for anyone who needed him, especially his own family. He loved his family more than anything in the world and was thrilled to learn of the day of becoming a grandpa. He also enjoyed anything to do with soccer.
Ilija is survived by his loving wife, Ana Maracic; daughter, Adela (Kristijan) Sunjic; son, Franjo (Ivana) Maracic; grandchildren, Matthew, David, and Katarina; siblings, Drago, Janja, Fabijan, Marinko, and Ivo Maracic; and the rest of the Maracic and Andric families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Franjo and Lucia (Stojcic) Maracic.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10am on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church – 7243 E 10th St, Indianapolis, IN 46219. Burial will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to his family in order to assist with funeral expenses.
