Huy Tuan Nguyen

November 8, 1974 — November 1, 2024

Avon

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Huy T. Nguyen, who left us too soon on November 1, 2024, at the age of 49. Huy was a loving son, brother, and friend whose kindness, humor, and generosity of spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

Born on November 8, 1974, in Vietnam, Huy was the son of the late Nhu and Thu Nguyen. He grew up surrounded by family, in which was his number 1 priority. He shared a deep connection with his nieces, Jolee, Mailee, and Hayden. Huy was a dedicated caring individual who always put others first, whether through his work, friendships, or personal life. His unshakeable loyalty left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

Huy graduated from Chesterton High School and continued his studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. He finally obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry before starting work at Eli Lilly as a research scientist. He worked at Lilly for over 20 years where he made some of his closest friends.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Huy’s love for sports was central to his life. Whether playing or cheering on his favorite teams. He enjoyed football, basketball, and baseball the most but always showed an interest in any sport, especially any sport his nieces participated in.

While Huy's life was far too short, he leaves behind a legacy of love and positive impact. He will be remembered for his strength, resilience, and the quiet way he made the world better just by being in it. His absence leaves an irreplaceable void, but his spirit will continue to live on in the memories he created; the love he gave, and the example he set.

Huy is survived by his siblings; brother, Patrick Nguyen of Avon, Indiana, and sisters, Nancy (husband Chris) Nguyen-Sherman of Plainfield, Indiana, and Lisa (husband Tim) Battles of Antelope, California; nieces, Jolee, Mailee, and Hayden Sherman of Plainfield, Indiana, and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Nhu and Thu Nguyen. His family takes comfort in knowing that his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan Decatur Township (5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana) from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm.

Mass and burial will be held at the Calvary Cemetery Chapel (435 West Troy Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana) at 11:00 am on Friday, November 15, 2024.

A funeral reception to celebrate Huy's life will be held on Friday November 15, 2024, at St. Jude Catholic Church (5353 McFarland Road Indianapolis, Indiana), immediately following his burial. Friends and family are invited to gather and share their memories of Huy, a truly remarkable person whose light will continue to shine in the lives of those who loved him.

Huy will be missed beyond words, but we will carry his memory in our hearts forever.
