A celebration of his life service will be held on August 6, 2022 at Second Presbyterian Church located at 7700 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Following the service will be a reception held at Meridian Hills Country Club located at 7099 Spring Mill Road, Indianapolis, IN 46260. There we will commemorate the stories from the “courses played” and his life well lived!
Tuck was born May 8, 1936 in Rochester, Minnesota to Maurice George and Madeleine (Tuck) Schulhof. It was they who instilled strong family values, an extraordinary work ethic, and a love for golf in Tuck. He was the eldest of three children and thus he began to carry his everlasting title of “mentor” and “big brother” to all early in life
He was a 1954 graduate of Burris High School where he participated in baseball, basketball, swimming, track and field. He received his undergraduate degree from DePauw University in 1958 and his Law Degree from Indiana University in 1961.
In 1964 he married Saundra (Williams) of Muncie. Together, they were the proud parents of four children and were active in their Indiana communities of Carmel and Indianapolis and spent many winters in Southwest Florida on Sanibel Island.
Tuck was elected Delaware County Prosecutor at age 27 and then began practicing Law with Sid McClellan. In 1965 he moved to Indianapolis to serve as attorney with Indiana Bell which eventually became part of Ameritech Corp. It was there that he advanced in his career to Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Shortly after retiring from Ameritech, he combined his passion for music and his gift of working with people and he joined the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra to serve as Vice President for Development.
During his lifetime, Mr. Schulhof received numerous recognitions and was part of many civic and philanthropic organizations. He served as the Vice President & General Secretary of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and was a trusted volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House of Central Indiana. Tuck was honored Sagamore of the Wabash by three sitting Indiana Governors – Governor Robert Orr in 1985, Governor Evan Bayh in 1991, and Governor Frank O’Bannon in 2001.
Tuck was a founding member of the Literary Society of Indianapolis and an avid golfer – playing at least “8 days a week!” at Old Oakland Golf Course while in Indianapolis, the Dunes on Sanibel Island and, recently, Mangrove Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was a proud member of the Bailey Bunch in Sanibel where you could find him in the mornings with many close friends enjoying the free coffee and free jokes. In honor of his extraordinary grit and commitment to overcome life’s challenges, the Annual Tuck Schulhof Award was bestowed upon him and continues to carry his name and legacy among his esteemed and most trusted advisors.
Mr. Schulhof is survived by his wife of 57 years, Saundra (Williams), and their four children: Christopher (Beth) Schulhof, Krysia (Ed) Arkenau, Kevin (Jen) Schulhof, and Alicia Schulhof (Patrick O’Connor), fifteen grandchildren: Kayla, Aimee, Cole, Maggie, Kyle, Cameron, Nathan, Alycia, Abby, Megan, Zach, Joshua, Alyvia, Bryce, & Emily, and 5 great grandchildren: Alissa, Tyler, Ashley, Ava and Lacy.
Later in life, he was very fond of his visits to Asheville and golf trips with his brother Lary (Jan) and the countless family celebrations and pool parties in Indiana with his sister Carole Porter (Rich) and their children and grandchildren.
Mr. Schulhof was generous with his time and helped all whom he encountered. His contributions to family and friends were endless; his impact and legacy will be ever-lasting.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The American Heart Association, Ronald McDonald House of Central Indiana, or Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.
