Herbert H. Ritenour, Jr.

Herbert H. Ritenour Jr., 94, passed away December 9, 2021 in Plainfield, Indiana. He was born April 28, 1927 to Herbert H. Ritenour, Sr and Lutie (Estes) Ritenour. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Gladys E. Ritenour, his parents, and brother Paul.

Herbert is survived by his sister Marilyn Groce; daughters Becky (Steve) Rasmussen and Kim (Doug) Wooden; grandchildren Jaime Rasmussen, Brandon (Carissa) Wooden, Logan (Jacci) Wooden, and Kelsey (Quentin) Humbarger; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was part of the greatest generation, a WWII veteran and served in the Army Air Corps. Herbert was a native of New Castle, Indiana, and graduated from Tri State College in Angola, Indiana. He retired as a zone manager from Kroger after 38 years. His faith guided him in every decision he made; he was an active member of Speedway United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was also an avid fisherman, golfer, and outdoorsman. He loved his family and doted on his grandchildren. He supported all their activities and attended every sporting event he could. He was the absolute rock of the family. He will be in our memories forever.

The family will receive friends and guests from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 28^th at Flanner Buchanan – Speedway at 2950 N. High School Road in Indianapolis, with funeral services beginning at 1 p.m. He will be reunited with Gladys at West Ridge Cemetery following the funeral, with military honors.
