Henry Elmer Montoya

Dr. Henry E. Montoya, MD of Fishers passed away peacefully on November 18, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 89.

He was born February 4, 1932 in Arequipa, Peru to the late Jorge Montoya and Delia Alvarez Montoya.

Henry completed medical school in Peru, S.A.  He married the love of his life Juanita Figuerola, and they were wed for 63 years.  After marriage they relocated to the United States where he completed an internship in Medicine in Lima, Ohio before returning to Peru and spending six additional years as a General Medical practitioner for International Petroleum Company. Their journey would then take them back to the US where he completed his residency and fellowship in Rheumatology. They then moved to Indianapolis where he began a long clinical and research practice at the Winona Memorial Clinic. He enjoyed retirement in Florida, Peru, and his final years in Fishers, Indiana.

He served as the President of the Lions Club in Talara, Peru, as well as the President of the Peruvian American Medical Society in Indianapolis.

Dr. Montoya had many passions, from music, singing and dancing to tennis. His family hosted some of the professional tennis players during the Indianapolis International Clay Court Championships. He was also a great orator and enjoyed reading, even writing a book during his working years. He was a man who loved to share knowledge and experience with his friends and family. Henry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Henry is survived by his wife Juanita Figuerola Cavallé de Montoya; children Monica Montoya O’Brien (Steve Roberts), Fernando Montoya, MD (Elise), and Marisol Montoya Sabal (John); grandchildren Ethan and Alec Montoya; and siblings Maggie Hurtado (Victor), Hardy Montoya (Teresa Perez), the late Milward Montoya, and Jorge Montoya (Costanza Quaggiotto).

A Memorial Mass is being planned for a later date.
