Westfield, Indiana – Helen Lois Mowry, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the age of 89.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, on December 16, 1934, she was the cherished daughter of George and Chrissy Thomson

Affectionately known as Lois, she graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in Providence, where she excelled academically and participated in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. Lois married Howard Clinton Mowry of Warwick, Rhode Island, and they established their home in Warwick before eventually moving to Cranston, where they raised their family. A devoted partner, she inspired those around her with her strength and resilience. Lois was preceded in death by her husband Howard (1993) and grandson Connor (2003).

Lois is survived by her three children: Peter (Janice) Mowry of Indiana, David (Summer) Mowry of California, and Dawn (Billy) Mooney of Arkansas. Lois took immense joy in her role as a grandmother to her four grandchildren: Rachel Barrett, Melissa Roth, Garrett Mowry, and Steven Mooney. Lois was also a proud great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren.

The daughter of immigrant parents, Lois was exceptionally proud of her Scottish heritage throughout her life. An endearing “shopaholic,” Lois loved to stroll through stores, often searching for a special trinket to bring home for a friend or family member. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and the love she bestowed upon her family and friends.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 4:30 PM at the Flanner Buchanan - Hamilton Memorial Park (Prairie Waters) 4180 Westfield Road Westfield, IN. Visitation will commence immediately following the service and be held from 5:00-7:00 PM. Friends and family are warmly invited to gather in remembrance of Lois. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Helen Lois Mowry will be missed by all who knew her; her legacy of love and kindness will continue to resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.
