Helen Hinshaw Johnson

July 12, 1930 — August 17, 2022

Fishers, Indiana

Helen Hinshaw Johnson was born in Rushville, IN on July 12, 1930.  Helen’s dad, Robert Hinshaw, was a High School Coach and Athletic Director and her mother, Jane Hinshaw, was an English teacher.

In High School, Helen was the President of Y Teen and Editor of the Yearbook.  She attended Earlham College, graduated from Butler University and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After graduation, Helen taught elementary school in Martinsville and married Bob Johnson in 1955.  They lived in South Bend, Fort Wayne, Muncie, Bloomington, Indianapolis, and Fishers.  Helen was the President of the Muncie Psi Ote chapter and organized the national convention.  She continued a close association with her Kappa pledge class for over 60 years.  Upon Bob’s retirement in 1990, they spent the winters at their Florida beach condo for many years and developed close friends there.

Helen was an avid sports fan.  She grew up spending time at the High School gym with her daddy.  She continued her love of sports and attended many games over the years.  Helen enjoyed a good life and made us all better people for knowing her.

Helen leaves her loving husband Bob, two wonderful daughters, Jane Lannan (Larry) and Julie Plepel (Scott), granddaughters Lindsay, Mary, Allison and Kaylee, great grandson Dakota, cousin Carolyn Godfrey and beloved sister-in-law Mary Jo Hawkins.

A private immediate family service will be held.
