Helen Marie Essex

September 8, 1930 — January 9, 2025

Helen Marie Essex, beloved to many; known for her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, and love and devotion to her husband, and children went to her heavenly home on January 9, 2025, in Brownsburg, Indiana. Born on September 8, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late William Earl and Wilda Marie Yetter. Helen was a beacon of Christ’s love to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In an academic achievement that was uncommon for the time, Helen earned a bachelor’s degree in religious education from Phillips University in Oklahoma. This was a true testament to her deep-rooted faith and her desire to serve others. After her education, she moved to Indianapolis, where she met and married the love of her life, Robert Grant “Bob” Essex. Together they shared a beautiful life for 50 years. Helen was passionate about spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren, and creating a home filled with laughter and joy, all while leaving an indelible mark on their lives. She cherished her role as a wife and mother and embraced her family with open arms and a loving heart.

From the moment she learned to read, Helen always had a book in her hands and especially loved Anne of Green Gables. Helen also loved football and developed a lively spirit as a dedicated fan of the Indianapolis Colts. While living in Florida, with her husband, Bob, she enthusiastically cheered for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, unless they were playing the Colts, of course!

Helen is survived by her children, Robert S. Essex (Delores), Linda M. Waeiss (Robert), Laurie A. Pensworth (Don), and Deanna L. Cross (Bill); ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; and her brother, David Yetter (Sally). She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Grant Essex, and sister, Doris Ann.

A visitation will be held in her honor on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at CrossBridge Baptist Church located at 4309 West 79th Street in Indianapolis, followed by a Funeral Service from 12:00 PM at the same location.

As we gather to celebrate the remarkable life of Helen Marie Essex, we remember her kindness, her love for Jesus, and the profound impact she had on our lives.
