Helen "Carol" Bagan

Helen “Carol” Bagan of Fishers, Indiana passed away on December 5, 2021 at the age of 90.

She was born October 28, 1931 in Indianapolis to the late Ernest J. and Ella Wertenberger.

Carol completed her high school education late in life and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1968. She loved to travel across the United States and Europe. She was an accomplished photographer and oil painter. She loved all kind of music, especially opera, classical, country, and pop. There was never a classical baritone she did not love.

Fate brought Carol and Milton together during the Korean War. Milton was stationed at Camp Atterbery. It was love at first sight. Always a party gal, she loved to dance and entertain.

She taught all her children how to care for animals, particularly dogs. She was also quite fond of a good sea adventure and whale watching.

Carol lived with dementia later in life, but she adapted to it and grew happier with time. She made all who cared for her happy with her exuberance; she was living proof you can always sing and dance, even in a wheelchair.

She is survived by her children Levida Redell-Arkenberg, Howard “John” Bagan (Sarah), Melody Theresa Hamilton (Edward), and Milton Bagan (Debbie); grandchildren Jennifer, Vincent, Emily, Mary, Ellen, Laura, Eddie, Drew, and Zach; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Milton Bagan; and siblings Charles Wertenberger, Donald Wertenberger, Zelma Harvey, and Buddy Wertenberger.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 13 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St, Indianapolis.  Funeral Services will be held Monday, beginning at 1 PM.  She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
