Harry Louis Johnston, 91, of Plainfield, IN, passed away at home on Sunday, December 12, 2021. He was born in Indianapolis on September 25, 1930. He attended Emmerich Manual High School and graduated in 1950. He served in the US Army from 1952 thru 1954 and was stationed at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs, Colorado. He worked as a machine repairman at Chrysler Foundry in Indianapolis for 25 years retiring in 1982.
Harry enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He spent many hours on lakes and ponds in Indiana, Wisconsin, Florida and Louisiana. He was famous for his wonderful tomatoes and beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. In his later years he was an avid reader.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Johnston and Jessie (Sumpter) Johnston, son, Steven Johnston, brothers, Charles, Virgil, Ralph and Jack, and sister, Virginia (Johnston) Nield. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia “Ginny” (Pearson) Johnston, son Anthony (Renee) Johnston, daughter, Kathy Acton, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Visitation for Harry will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Flanner and Buchanan-Speedway 2950 N. High School Road, Indianapolis, IN, 46224, with a service to follow. Burial will be at West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.
