Harold Boruff, 95, of Indianapolis passed away Tuesday October 15, 2024. He was born on March 3, 1929 in Clear Creek Indiana to Cornie A. and Alma D. (Doub) Boruff. He is survived by his children David (Kimberly) Boruff, Brian (Kathy) Boruff, Ronald Riggs, Charles (Beulah) Swinehart, Belinda Shearer, Jerry (Lynne) Swinehart, Steve (Tammie) Swinehart, 18 grandchildren, and numerous great and great great grandchildren. His parents, wife Ruth, brothers Jess, Ralph, Cornie Jr., James, and sisters Anna Kerr, Norma Hoagland, Beulah Boruff, Marjorie Reynolds, and Peggy Kerr preceded him in passing.
Harold graduated from Bloomington High School in 1947 where he was a member of the National Honor Society and was on the Student Council.
After graduating he attended Milligan Bible College (Tennessee) to study Religion. He then served in the Army from 1954 to 1957 and was a Specialist 2, Traffic Analyst while stationed in Germany.
Following an Honorable Discharge he continued his education earning Bachelor of Arts degrees from Manhattan (KS) Bible College (1960) and Butler University (1961), and a Bachelors of Divinty degree from the Christian Theological Seminary (Indianapolis) in 1964.
Harold was ordained as minister in 1964 and was the Pastor at churches in several Indiana communities including Charlottesville, Swayzee, Laud, and Columbia City. After the ministry he was a Social Worker for Montgomery County, worked at the Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison, was an interpreter at Connor Prairie Historic Prairietown, and was employed at Royal Pin Bowling until his retirement in 1994.
Harold married Dorothy Marie Schober in 1959. They had two sons- David (1960) and Brian (1961). The family settled in Oaklandon where he and Dorothy raised their sons very lovingly and supportively. After divorcing he met Ruth Swinhart (Terman). They married in 1993 and remained so until Ruth’s passing in 2020. With the marriage Harold gained 5 more loving children in Ron, Charles, Belinda, Jerry, and Steve.
Harold had many interests- he loved music, was an expert at Crossword Puzzles, and shared his sons’ passion for their Alma Mater Purdue and its football and basketball teams. More than anything he enjoyed ministering to and interacting with others, sharing experiences, ideas, and laughter.
