HAROLD JAMES BANKS SR blessed this earth on January 5, 1933, as the eldest son of Moses Alonzo Banks and Joyce Lee Banks. In his youth he was a caring and devoted son, having attended the Church of Christ where the Lord’s light shined upon him. As a young man he was skilled and athletic, playing sports in school. He earned his high school diploma from Crispus Attucks High School.
Harold James Banks Sr was a loving Husband and Father. He married Hazel Banks in a home ceremony in 1975, nearly 50 years ago. Together they left an indelible mark on everyone’s lives they encountered. In marriage they enjoyed each other's company, traveling, taking cruises and watching a good ball game on TV.
Harold James Banks Sr retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a hardworking, obstinate and willful man. He had an outward, jovial sense of humor often giving family and friends a good laugh when in his company. He enjoyed jazz and soul music.
Harold James Banks Sr was preceded in death by his parents, Moses and Joyce Banks; his first wife, Wilma Estelle Banks; and his daughters, Linda and Cassandra.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Hazel Banks; his children, Karen Banks Mahamadou, Rochelle (Johnson) Charles, Cynthia Bartlett (Thomas), Harold J. Banks Jr., and Deattra Banks; Hazel’s children, Theresa Hilliard, Tawanna Walker, Aaron Hilliard, Dwight Hilliard and Anthony Hilliard, and his younger brother, Fredrick Banks. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
