H. Evelene Brooks

H. Evelene Brooks, 84, passed away August 7th, 2024, and the world will not be the same without her. She was born April 15th, 1940, in Athens, Alabama, to parents James and Martha (Baldwin) Richardson.

As a young lady, Evelene met the love of her life, Junior Brooks. At just 15 years old, she and Junior married and shared 69 wonderful years together. Junior passed away March 1st, 2009.

Evelene was a hard worker. While she was a homemaker for her family, she developed her own cleaning business, and her cleaning clients became part of Everlene’s family. 

Evelene was a strong-willed woman, with a can-do attitude, and huge heart. Throughout her life, she faced adversity, but nothing could stop her excellent, inspiring character. Evelene enjoyed crafting, no matter the medium. She tried her hand at jewelry making, crocheting, you name it. She liked to go shopping and loved to look her best. Evelene was an excellent cook, and she shared her love through her delicious food. In her free time, you could find her admiring the birds in her yard, tending to her beautiful flower beds, or sipping coffee, chatting with her loved ones. Evelene adored her family, and they were always the center of her focus.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Evelene is survived by her daughters Charlotte Ottinger and Carol Rogers (Gordon); grandchildren Nicole Holland (Marty), Amy Duty, Anthony “Tony” Harvey (Cathy), Kaleigh Mack (James), and Alex Rogers; great-grandchildren Cari Holland, Kristin Holland, Zachary Rogers, Jeremy Duty, and Eliza Harvey; The Craigs, Brother-in-law Johnny Brooks, and many more; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Junior; her parents; and her siblings Martha “Jimmy” Cooper (Ronnie), James “Buddy” Richardson.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 15th, from 11-1pm at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East. Her funeral will begin at 1pm. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Washington Park East Cemetery.
