Gwendolyn Randolph Spencer was born September 9, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois.
Gwendolyn, affectionately known as “Gwen” was the oldest daughter of James and Vera Randolph (Indianapolis, Indiana). Gwen was baptized at the age of 13, at Greater St. Paul Baptist Church, North East, Washington, D.C. Gwen was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church since her teens under the pastorship of the late Rev., Dr. T.T. Newman and the present Pastor, Rev., Dr. Theron D. Williams.
Gwen graduated from Lawrence Central High School, Indianapolis, Indiana, and furthered her education at I.U.P.U.I, Herron School of Art and Ivy Tech State College where she became a Multimedia Artist, skilled in Graphic Design and Fine Arts. By profession she was a certified Gemologist and Diamond Expert. (Exodus 31:1-10)
Gwen was a witty, bright, vibrant and loving woman. During her elementary years, while living in Okinawa, Japan she was able to understand and almost speak fluent Japanese as well as identify and understand other dialects. At seventeen Gwen became Church Secretary at Greater Galilee Baptist Church, Indianapolis, Indiana under the pastorship of the late Rev., Dr. S.W Williams Jr. Gwen would use her various talents to help her mother with Sunday school, missionary and work projects.
On June 27, 1987, Gwen married the love of her life, Lyndell Spencer. They shared 37 wonderful years together. To this union 4 girls were born, Alexandria JaNelle, Allyson JoyRia, Ebony (stillborn) and Emily RayAnne Spencer.
Gwen was a talented artist that enjoyed painting, drawing, cooking and crocheting. She enjoyed spending time with her daughters whom she referred to as “the girls”, whether it was shopping, going out to eat or just taking a ride. She also enjoyed just simply watching T.V., especially Andy Griffith with the girls. She loved every single trip or adventure they’d take her on. Whether it was her hunting down new places to eat with Alex, visiting art stores with Allyson, or spending hours in search of the cutest outfit with Emily — she loved it. Gwendolyn was rarely ever seen without her girls; wherever she went, they were alongside her, tailing her like a row of little ducklings.
In 2024 Gwen was medically retired from her job at IPS Arsenal Tech High School, Indianapolis, Indiana where she passionately worked with “special needs” children in the classroom.
Gwen leaves as part of her legacy, her husband, Lyndell Spencer, three daughters, Alexandria JaNelle, Allyson JoyRia, Emily RayAnne, and grandson, Aaron. Two sisters who adored her, Joycelyn “Joyce” Walton (of Severn, Maryland) and Dr. Carolyn Randolph-Kato (Todd Kato of Champaign, Illinois). An Aunt, Erma (Charles Collins of Calumet City, Illinois), Uncle “Bob” (of Illinois). A host of cousins, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews who called her “Auntie Bubba”, a host of friends, co-workers and acquaintances.
And similar to King Hezekiah, even after her battle with serious illnesses, God granted her an additional twenty years to complete the work he had entrusted to her. (Isaiah 38:1-21)
No more illness, safe in his arms. She is a child of God.
