Gwendolyn Phyllis Gilliam

93, of Indianapolis, IN passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017. Phyllis, as she was commonly known, was born in Lafayette, IN on July 24, 1924 to parents, James E. and Gladys (Downs) Maxwell. She graduated in 1943 from Manual Tech High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and spending time with her beloved family. Phyllis was a member of East 91st Street Christian Church and the Sahara Grotto Women’s Auxiliary.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Frank and daughter-in-law, Mary Gilliam. She is survived by son, Steve A. Gilliam; grandsons: Paul, Daniel and Andrew Gilliam; granddaughter, Jennifer (James) Mendenhall; and three great-grandchildren: Tyler Gilliam, Lucas and Julia Mendenhall.
Calling will be held from Noon until 2pm, Friday, August 18, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis. Funeral services will follow at 2pm on Friday. Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.
