Mom, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend Gwendolyn A. Dubay passed away on March 20th at the age of 69 in Zionsville, Indiana.  She passed away peacefully in her sleep in the home she loved so dearly.
Gwen was born in the small town of Wales Corner, Maine. After graduating the University of Maine with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, she eventually moved to Zionsville, Indiana with her husband Lionel. There they raised their children Ty and Tara. Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, who was the love of her life. After his death, Gwen had to take on the role of single mom to raise and provide for two young children, which she did with incredible grace. Gwen was known to be a tough-as-nails businesswoman, but she never lost her kind, loving, and generous heart. She showered attention on Ty’s two children, Ella & Charlie, who love her dearly, and didn’t hesitate to welcome her two step-grandchildren, Edward & Colton, into her huge heart. Gwen fought and beat breast cancer with the assuredness and determination for which she was known. Later in life, she developed a passion for rescuing dogs. Her home was often full of dogs, and weekends were spent transporting them to their forever homes. She always took care of those in need, whether they had 2 legs or 4. She had such an adventurous, generous spirit, it’s impossible to capture her in a paragraph.
A visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan Funeral Home on Pine Street in Zionsville from 4:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, April 1st. The funeral will be held on Friday, April 2nd, at 10:00 AM, also at Flanner Buchanan. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to one of the causes she loved so much: Tamela Glenn Scholarship at the University of Maine, benefiting students who have overcome obstacles in their lives and are pursuing degrees in social work (Tamela Glenn donation link); or Pet Friendly Services of Indiana, which supports spay/neuter (Pet Friendly Services donation link). Mostly, we think Gwen would love everyone to take a moment to appreciate their loved ones today. As she recently shared, “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” Gwen would love for us all to appreciate each other, today and every day.
