Gideon Batelman, 74, of Indianapolis died November 19, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Gideon was born on February 25, 1943 in Rishon Lezion, Israel. In 1966, he left Israel for Canada and then the United States for educational opportunities. He received his undergraduate degree from Salem State College and went on to receive his Master’s degree in Education from Indiana University. He spent much of his career as a Hebrew teacher and the last 25 years of his working career as a proud business owner. He was a member of B’nai Torah Synagogue.
He leaves behind his wife of almost 45 years, Esther Batelman; children Kareen Shapiro (Hal) and Asaf Batelman (Robyn); grandchildren Micah Shapiro, Nessa Shapiro, and Jonah Batelman; and sister Ze’eva Kadan (Dovi).
Graveside services will be held Monday, November 20, 2017, 2 pm at B’nai Torah Cemetery. Donations may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (lls.org) and Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (ccfa.org).
