Gertrude C. (Weest) Bishop, of Carmel, Indiana, died February 13, 2017. She was born December 12, 1933, in Indianapolis. A 1951 graduate of Tech High School, Gertrude attended Indiana University, where she was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity. A professional singer, she was first the contralto, then the soprano soloist at First-Meridian Heights Presbyterian Church for over 25 years, where she also has been a member for many years.
Gertrude was active in the Indianapolis Harmonie Opera Club for a number of years, and also sang at Starlite Musicals.
Gertrude married Robert B. Bishop, who survives. She is also survived by their children: Stephen (Cynthia), Deborah (James) Weinmann, Elizabeth (Stephen) Mong, Thomas (Diane), and John (Julie); 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Donahue, and her brother, William Weest.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
