Gerry V. Smith (75) of Brownsburg, IN. passed away in the hospital in Avon, IN. on October 19, 2021. Gerry was born in Clinton, IN. on August 27, 1946 to Talma and Charles Smith, he with his brother Tony Smith spent their youth in Mecca IN. He attended George Washington High School, graduate of the class of 1964.
Gerry worked in and impacted the food service industry, touching many people who claim his mentoring as the key to their own success. He started his career early, in his teens, with A&P Grocery stores; from bagger to store manager before he moved on to driving a truck for Chef’s Pantry. After a few years he moved up to district sales manager before heading on to a bigger job with PYA Monarch. After a stint there, he ended up with CFS Continental which became Sysco Foods. There he accomplished every milestone a foodservice salesperson aspires to make as he moved through the ranks to his final position of Sr. VP of Sales. Knowing he had more to offer, he spent the last ten years of his working career with US Foodservices as the leading District sales manager. Gerry enjoyed playing golf with the Men’s League of West Chase Golf Club. He enjoyed teaching firearm safety to anyone who wished to learn and experience shooting with him. His favorite pastime was spending time with and entertaining his family. His home was home to all his family and most Friday nights “Smitty’s” Bar was open to the Smith family and all their friends.
Gerry is survived by His Lovely Bride of 57 years, Darlene Sue Smith, who’s heart broke and she has since passed as well. Their sons and families, Jeffry Smith, wife Linda, Grandson Wesley, Granddaughter’s Christy and Katy. Ronald Smith, wife Beatriz and Granddaughter Veronica. Jason Smith, Grandson’s Chandler and Austin and Granddaughter Samantha. Gerry Smith may not have been as good as he once was, but he was as good Once as he ever was!
