Gerry L Davis

August 4, 1941 — August 20, 2018

Camby, Indiana

Gerry L. Davis, 77, of Camby, Indiana passed away on August 20, 2018. He was born August 4, 1941 in Haycenter, Nebraska to Gerald and Miriam Davis.

Born in Nebraska, Gerry grew up on a farm. Riding his horse to school, he attended a one room schoolhouse for the majority of his primary education; where he then became a farmer himself.  On December 31, 1958, Gerry made the selfless commitment to serve his country as he joined the United States Navy. He served until November 29, 1966, serving 6 of those years on a boat during The Vietnam Conflict. Upon his discharge with the military, he began his singing career as well as working at JC Penney in California. It was there that he met the love of his life, Linda in 1971. She went to see him sing in Laguna Beach and the rest is history; they married just two months later. The pair moved to Indiana that same year where they spent a beautiful 47 years together raising their family. Gerry loved boating, fishing, and photography, even if most of his photos were out of focus. His family remembers him as an amazing father and husband who coached his son’s baseball teams. He had an amazing sense of humor, though he could be ornery at times. He formed two singing groups after accepting the Lord into his life; Kingdom Heirs and The Foundation Singers. He was a talented gospel singer who traveled all over the country sharing his beautiful voice and songs. His son Mark remembers him as a mix of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood; hard and firm, but always fair.  Gerry was a pillar in his community and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to meet him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Miriam; young daughters, Deborah Jean Davis and Stacey Marie Davis. Surviving to carry on his legacy are, loving wife of 47 years, Linda Davis; children, Shari Lynn ( Rex) Blackwell, Monica Ann Davis, Mark Allen (Amanda) Davis; siblings, Peggy McAdams and Denny Davis; grandchildren, Deborah Nicole Blackwell, Clayton Joseph Blackwell, Mason Alexander Davis, and Max Alton Davis; as well as a host of extended family members and friends who were more like family.

Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, August 24 from 4-7 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indy 46221.
