Geraldine Ann Turney

Geraldine “Gerri” Ann Turney, 66, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on September 10, 2017. She was born January 5, 1951, in Yonkers, New York and is the daughter of the late John Frank and Helen Anna (Idzkowski) Stramowski.

Gerri received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where she met her husband of 45 years. After graduating from college, she devoted herself to helping others as a Registered Nurse (RN) in both the hospital and public health setting. Gerri and Steve lived in Illinois after getting married while Steve attended graduate school. Steve’s job led them to live and raise their family in New Hartford, NY; Liverpool, NY; and eventually Carmel, IN. As a devoted wife and mother, Gerri put her career on hold to raise her daughters and take care of her family.

She was an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, where she frequently volunteered her time as an usher and a member of the Women’s Club. An avid swimmer, she loved the water, whether it was the neighborhood pool or the beaches of Cape Cod. She was active in Spring Green Garden Club and loved flowers, especially roses. Gerri enjoyed making new friends and helping others in need. She was full of compassion and empathy and touched many lives. Loved by many, she will be missed as a loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Neighbor and Friend.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Stephen Turney; two daughters, Alison and Amanda Turney; brother, Francis “Frank” Stramowski of Brewster, Massachusetts; nephew and nieces.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 14, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10655 Haverstick Road, Carmel, Indiana. Immediately following mass lunch will be provided by the Women’s Club. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive, Carmel, Indiana.

Additional services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16,2017 at Powers, Present, Sixbey Funeral Home, 316 East Fifth Street, Jamestown, NY. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the services at Bemus Point Cemetery in Bemus Point, NY.
