Gerald “Dutch” Niehaus, 83, died on October 5, 2023 from colon cancer. Gerald blessed his mom and dad, Adolph and Susie Niehaus, on Mother’s Day (May 11) in 1940. He had the best garden around and shared the fruits of his labor with many friends and family including offering his expert advice on how to plant a garden. He spent many days attending to his garden that mom swore he cared more for the vegetables than her. He was able to hoe the soil so fine, a knack his daughter was never able to achieve. Another talent he had was he loved all animals and they loved him back.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sandra (Johns) Niehaus, son Keith Niehaus (Bonnie), daughter Tamara Sipf (Jeff), 4 granddaughters; Amy Hughes (Will), Sarah Niehaus (from Michigan), Megan Sipf, Ashley Sipf and many grandpets. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews including a very special nephew, Gary Daub, and a very special family friend, Rita Cassin.
Gerald worked at Keller Crescent retiring after 40 years. He was preceded in death by his 9 brothers and sisters and their spouses; Alma (Clarence), Orville (Marietta), Harvey (Mary), Jeanette (Robert), Earl (Dorothy), Wilma (Jim), Evelyn (Wilburn), Anna Mae (Charlie), Donald (Barbara), and his grandpet Hunter.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 10 at Flanner Buchanan-Carmel, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm.
