Gerald -Jerry- Mcdonald

April 7, 1932 — February 24, 2017

Gerald Rodney McDonald, age 84, of Indianapolis, passed away at his home February 23, 2017. He was born April 7, 1932 in River Rouge, Michigan to the late John and Anne McDonald. One of four children, he was preceded in death by his brother John and his sister Jackie and Corrine.

Jerry graduated from Harvey H. Lowrey High School in Dearborn, Michigan and served in the Navy from 1951-1955. He became a tool and die engineer, first with Cadillac Motors, and later with Stewart-Warner in Indianapolis. In 1966 he switched careers and became a bar and restaurant owner, first with the Brookside Tavern and later Sandy’s Town Tavern. In 1975 he switched careers again and became involved in construction and home remodeling.

He married his first wife Evie in the early 1950s with whom he had two children, Jill and Jeff, and was later divorced. He married Patricia Gail Woodring in1960 with whom he had four children, Jerri Marie Sizemore, Rita McDonald, Lisa McDonald, and James McDonald. He has three grandsons, Charlie Sizemore, Mark Sizemore, and John Sizemore, and 5 great-grandchildren, John Trinity, twins Aliyah and Patricia, and Isabelle.

Visitation will be held at 12pm with a service to follow Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park East. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery. Jerry was active until very recently, still doing home repairs with his grandsons and driving his own car. A devoted pet owner, he loved his Yorkies, especially Bella, and his two cats. He also fed stray cats for many years, and didn’t mind an occasional raccoon or possum. He will be fondly remembered and missed by his family and friends
