Georgiana Daniels of Zionsville passed away on Easter Morning, April 12, 2020 at Heartway Homes in Indianapolis at the age of 101.
Georgiana was born on March 6, 1919 in Indianapolis to the late Henry and Golda [Nullinger] Halbing. In addition to her parents, Georgiana was preceded in death by her husband John Curtis Daniels, sisters Josephine Halbing Salzarulo, Marguerite Halbing Salzarulo and nephew W. Peter Salzarulo, PhD.
The Halbing’s were life-long residents of Indianapolis and father Henry worked for Belt Railroad and Stockyard. Both the Halbing and Daniels families lived in the Haughville neighborhood on the west side of downtown.
Georgiana attended Washington High School and upon graduation in 1938 she attended the Indiana Business College. Georgiana joined her father at the Indianapolis Stockyard where she was employed as a bookkeeper. In addition to her position at the Stockyard, she became a valued team member of the Producers Marketing Association.
Georgiana married John Curtis Daniels on May 29, 1938 before he left for military service in World War II. Over the years, the couple loved to travel and spent many Christmases in Florida. Upon retirement in 1984, the couple went on a safari in Kenya. September 1986 found them touring Europe with a visit to General Patton’s grave in Luxembourg. Curt had served in the European theater under General Patton in WW II. Curt passed on December 17, 1994.
The Daniels had a deep affection for animals and at the time of their retirement had two horses Sugar and Dino on their farm and their beloved Airedale, Jack Daniels. Purdue University Animal Research, the Humane Society and the Indianapolis Zoo Laura Githens Smith Society will appreciate their love and devotion to animals and research for animal health.
Georgiana is survived by her nieces and nephew; Henry H. Salzarulo, MD [Elizabeth], Joana Hanley [Patrick], Marguerite Haines [Peter].
A private graveside service will be held on April 15, 2020 at 11:00 am at Zionsville Cemetery with Father Dennis Schafer of Sacred Heart Catholic Church presiding.
