George Lowell Watts

October 1, 1942 — August 26, 2024

Fishers, Indiana

George Lowell Watts, 81, a resident of Fishers, Indiana, passed away on Monday morning, August 26, 2024.

George was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 1, 1942, a son of Harry and Mamie (Giroud) Watts.

A United States Air Force veteran, George attained sergeant rank while serving as a ballistic missile tech in the North Dakota missile fields between 1963 and 1968. After his honorable discharge, George attended HVAC tech school, and he spent most of his career with the Carrier Air Conditioning Corporation in their commercial/industrial building services division. He acquired and maintained a notable professional reputation for his knowledge, competence and dedication. One of Carrier’s large industrial clients honored George’s service to them by naming their two, new industrial chillers “George I” and “George II.” George built his reputation over his 56 years in the Plumbers and Steamfitter Local 440 trade union.

George was an avid radio-controlled airplane modeler, and he loved tinkering with his planes. George liked attending airshows, and he was a lifelong aviation enthusiast. He loved getting together with family and was the extended family’s “go-to guy” for any type of automotive or household repairs. George loved children and babies, and he was the most reliable babysitter for his sister’s children, as well as all of his grandchildren. George also liked fast cars and drag racing, in particular. Family legend has it that George raced a Corvette from a rolling start while on the newly-opened I-70 through Indianapolis. The 1972 Pontiac Gran Prix, George’s pride and joy, pulled away from the hapless ‘Vette, while the three boys waved at the loser from the Gran Prix’s back window.

George was preceded by his wife, Linda Kay (Ferrell) Watts, parents Harry and Mamie Watts, brother and sisters David Watts, Jack and Phyllis (Watts) Brown, Glen and Bonnie (Watts) Guy, Lloyd and Nellie (Watts) Stefan, and son and daughter-in-law Shayne and Jan Dye.

George is survived by his sons Kevin and Jennifer Watts, and Michal Sean Watts and Jenette Bohlman; Grandchildren Chad and Shannon Stearns (Eric, Ethan and Ellie), Kayleigh and Eric Graul (Alex), Natalie and Sam Watts-Sochocki, and Travis Watts.
