George Thomas Smith

George Thomas (Tom) Smith, age 78 of Indianapolis, passed away May 17, 2019. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Harold and Mary Catherine (Girvin) Smith. Before retiring from Allison Transmission, Tom volunteered with the Wayne Township Fire Department Station 9, was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Speedway, Indiana, enjoyed skeet shooting as a member of the Marion County Fish and Game, and watching western movies.  But most of all he was a beloved husband, father and Poppy. 

 Tom is survived by his loving wife, Jan (Schaber) Smith; children, Kelly (Donna) Smith, Michael (Renee) Smith, Erin (Matt) Browning, Ryan (Mandy) Smith, Audrey (Tim) Ingersoll, and Sara (Pat) Cummins; grandchildren, Ashley Muston, Zachary, George, and William Smith, Ella and Lillian Ingersoll, Chloe and Carter Cummins, and Lauren Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Willie Joe Akers and sister Sharon Johns.  

 Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7th from 4-7 pm at Flanner Buchanan – Speedway. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, June 8th at 11 am at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Speedway, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Burial service will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Rock Steady Boxing.  https://rocksteadyboxing.org/
