George Thomas Shulse, 84, passed away on January 3, 2023. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 13, 1938. He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Henrietta (Howe) Shulse and his brother Jack Shulse. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Mary (Peters) Shulse, sister Alice Jean Shulse, and three children David Shulse, Becky Eberhard (Tom), and Sandra Russell (Johnny). He was affectionately loved and known as “Papaw” by his five grandchildren – Natalie Lohrmann (Tim), Matthew Russell (Valerie), Reid Eberhard (Shari), Kendra Eberhard, and Morgan Russell. He is also survived by six great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
George graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. He then fulfilled his duty in the U.S. Army Reserves in New York City. After which he began his longtime career with IBM as a Customer Service Engineer.
“Mr. George” was a favorite of many children whether in the neighborhood he lived or serving as a Sunday School teacher, Coach, or AWANA program leader at church. George was always “on call’ when his services were needed. If it was not work to be performed at IBM, he was always about the family, as well as his extended family at Heather Hills Baptist Church where he was a charter member. George lived his Faith in Christ through his deeds.
George was a quiet man who took time to think things through prior to contributing to the discussion. He took to heart the admonition of James 1:27 which states, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” He enjoyed working with his hands as was demonstrated in his love for working with electronics, building, and painting, as well as his service to others – his greatest gift to all. His hobbies included athletics, artistic painting, gardening, and collecting Dickens’ Villages.
This humble servant in Christ, loved by so many, has been welcomed into God’s heavenly kingdom above via the grace of God at work in him, through the power of Christ Jesus.
