George Russell Jones, “Russ”, 82, of Westfield, IN went to live with his heavenly Father on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Russ was born in Evansville, IN on July 10, 1939 and was the oldest of 9 siblings. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and was Airman First Class for 4 years, serving most of his time in Greenland servicing airplanes. It was on leave in Salina, KS that he met his future and only wife, Maxine. After his time in the service, Russ married Maxine and they settled first in Anderson, IN, and later in Indianapolis and Carmel, IN. They had two children, Christy and Jennifer, and while they were young, Russ finished his degree at the University of Indianapolis in business, doing it all in the evenings after work. Russ started a career at IBM and won service awards with the company right away. His life soon changed however, after his first mission trip to Bogota, Colombia. This experience ignited a flame in Russ that never went out. His strong faith in God and his love of Jesus led him to change his career to remodeling, construction, and home improvement in order to have a flexible life. This decision ultimately led to 99 mission trips to over 30 countries where he built over 40 churches, remodeled a hospital, and built and remodeled many buildings, schools and seminaries. He was recognized nationally for his leadership in missions as well as locally as workcamper of the year! Russ also worked as a building supervisor for Habitat for Humanity as well as a lifelong volunteer. His love of the Church at the Crossing was evident in his help with many large construction projects there even up to the end of his life doing small jobs around the church. Russ was a wonderful husband and support to his wife, Maxine, for 58 years. They shared in ministries together for their entire marriage, supporting each other in every endeavor. Russ was also an amazing father and grandfather, always involved with their activities, encouraging them, helping remodel their homes, and showing them God’s love in everything he did. Russ loved playing games, figuring out how things worked, boating, traveling, having dinners with friends, Sanibel Island, eating pizza, and especially cooking breakfast. Russ will be remembered as steadfast, faith filled, dependable, honest, loving, giving, and a true friend. Russ was preceded in passing from this earth by his parents, Norman and Mildred Jones, his brother Brian Jones, and his sister Sylvia Jones. He will be missed every day by his wife, Maxine, his children Christy (and Mark) Baugh and Jennifer Singer, his grandchildren Drake Baugh, Reilley Baugh, Mackenzie Singer, and Jaden Singer, his siblings Dick Jones, Dwight Jones, Kevin Jones, Cathy Lehman, Mike Jones, and Beth Lowry, as well as countless friends both locally and around the world.
