George Juris Dzeguze of Carmel, IN, passed away on January 3, 2025, at the age of 82. He was born in Kuldiga, Latvia, on November, 1942, to parents, Karlis Juris and Vera (Ajuts) Dzeguze. George graduated from University with his Masters in Electrical Engineering. He was an Electrical Engineer for The University of Michigan for several years before moving with his family in 1973 to California where he worked for Hughes Aircraft Company which became Boeing space Engineering Company for 32 years. His work involved designing and building microchips for the NASA space program. While in California he was a member of a running club and ran a few marathons. He was also a member of a fishing club. He loved ocean fishing as well as stream fishing, especially with the family, in the California mountains. He was an Eagle Scout and helped to direct his sons to their Eagle Scout achievements. In retirement he moved with Debby to Indiana where his grandchildren live.
George and Debby traveled extensively during their 56 years of marriage. Special trips included several trips to Hawaii, trips to many of the National Parks in the U.S.A., a trip to Latvia, and Germany, as well as a two-week trip to Alaska.
He played bridge with a local bridge club which he loved up until about two weeks before his death.
George married Deborah (Sprague) Dzeguze on July 6, 1968 in Ann Arbor, MI. They spent many wonderful years together, she survives. He is survived by sons, Karl Dzeguze, and Andrew “Andy” Dzeguze; former daughter-in-law, Lilia Teninty; grandson, Branden Dzeguze; granddaughter, Eleanor Dzeguze; nieces Laura Smidchens; and Laila Kalnins (Valdis); nephew Eric Smidchens and several grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ilze Smidchens; Uncle Janis Ajuts, and Aunt Zelma Patterson.
A memorial gathering will be held from 11 am until 1 pm, January 25, 2025, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ (3106 E. Carmel Dr., Carmel, IN 46033). A memorial service will be held at 1 pm.
