George Robert (Bob) Heffernan, 93 of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016. Bob was born October 21, 1922 in Connersville, IN to the late John Edward and Radie (Hayes) Heffernan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy Jeanne Heffernan.
Bob served as a Staff Sergeant in the 99th Infantry Division of the US Army during WWII during which time he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and other key battles of the war. He worked for Indiana Bell and later, Ameritech and retired after over 38 years in sales and sales management. Bob was an avid golfer and later in his life routinely scored under his chronological age. Bob was a kind, gentle, and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend and he was loved by all who knew him well.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Kellee Heisel; son, Timothy Heffernan; sister, Sarah (Sally) (Heffernan) Guess; son-in-law William (Bill) Heisel and daughter-in-law Laura Garmire Heffernan; grandchildren, Scott, Haylee, and Patrick Heisel; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jeanne Heffernan; his brother, John Edward Heffernan Jr.; his sisters, Joanne (Heffernan) Brandenburg, and Phyllis (Heffernan) Hinners.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel on Friday, October 14, 2016 with the service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Hamilton County Humane Society.
