George Mehay, of Dugger Indiana, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017. He was born on August 12, 1931 to Louis Mehay Sr. and Julie (Roger) Mehay.
George graduated from Duggar High School in 1949 and married Thelma L.(Bedwell) Mehay also from Dugger, on June 5, 1950.
George served in the US Navy from 1950-1953. After the Navy, George and Thelma moved to Merrillville, Indiana where they lived for 36 years and raised four children.
George was trained as an electrician while he served, earned an associate’s degree from Vincennes University and then went to work at Inland Steel as an electrician. After 36 years, George retired from Inland Steel at age of 61 and he and Thelma spent 16 years living in Graysville, Indiana before moving to Indianapolis.
George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Thelma L. (Bedwell) Mehay, father, Louis A. Mehay Sr., his mother, Julie (Roger) Mehay, brothers George, Arthur, and Louis Jr., sister Simone (Mehay) Simon.
Survived by his four children: Michael Mehay, (Cathy), Kevin (Lori) Mehay, Lisa (Bill) Sackman, Leah (Kostas) Evdokiou, 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grand-children.
Visitation for Mr. Mehay will be held at Flanner Buchanan in Speedway, Indiana on Saturday, November 4, 2017 11am to 1pm. Funeral service to follow at 1pm. Entombment at West Ridge Park Cemetery.
