Gene Young Shin died January 30, 2018 at the age of 43 surrounded by his loving family.
Although he was born in Oklahoma, Gene was raised in Indianapolis. He attended Lawrence North High School and went on to graduate from Rose Holman Institute of Technology. As an IT engineer, he spent the majority of his career at IPL most recently as the Director of ISOC. He focused his life on work and most of all family. He enjoyed reading and hunting. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and how he treated every day as a blessing handling his terminal illness with strength and grace.
He is survived by his wife of almost 20 years Aimee M. Shin; children Alexander and Michaela Shin; Father Dr. Robert Bak Shin (Julie); Siblings Young Shin (Karen), Anne Shin (Peter Southworth); sister-in-law Denise Shin; parents-in-law Michael and Beth LaFrance; sister-in-law J’nai Cochran (Woody); nieces and nephews Lauren, Robert, Max, Nathan, Chloe, Olivia and Gavin; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother Katherine Shin and brother David Shin.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 2 from 4 to 8 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd W Drive. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 PM Saturday, February 3 at St. Pius Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive, Indianapolis with visitation 12 noon until the time of mass. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to Catholic Charities of Indianapolis, 1400 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
