Gary Lee Woods, 72, of Warsaw, Indiana, passed away on March 27, 2025, after a long journey with his health, trading in his tired body to be made whole again and being reunited with his best friend, his mother.
Born on September 18, 1952, in Indianapolis, IN, Gary lived a life full of hard work, family devotion, and a passion for working with his hands, including making knives, and many other hobbies. He worked as a machine repairman, contributing his talents to Colonial Bakery and later retiring from Pratt Corporation in 2013.
Gary was an active runner in his youth, even running cross country barefoot because the shoes hurt his feet. He was a proud graduate of Warren Central High School, Class of 1971, this is where he met the love of his life, his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Jeanette Woods. In his younger years, Gary could be found cheering on his children at their sporting events and taking an active role in Little League, but on Tuesday nights he was at All-Star Bowl enjoying bowling leagues with, of course, his family and friends.
In retirement, Gary found peace in the simple pleasures of life, especially enjoying the warmth of the sun and the beauty of Big Barbee Lake. He could always be found on his golf cart, or behind the wheel of the boat, enjoying his favorite view.
He is remembered for his deep love for his family. He was particularly proud of his children, April and Randy, and loved every moment spent playing with his grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew and Adam.
Gary’s memory will live on in his beloved wife, Jeanette Woods, daughter April Smith (Brian), son Randy Woods (Erin Shelton), his three grandchildren, Ashley Badgley (Karli), Andrew Shrock (Jamie Monnett), and Adam Woods. He is also survived by his brothers, Kenny Woods (Janet), Rusty Woods (Dawn), his brother-in-law Mark Kemp, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil “Bud” and Viola “Vi” Woods, and his sisters, Debbie Kemp and Sandra Woods.
A visitation to celebrate Gary’s life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 11:00am-2:00pm with a memorial service immediately following at Flanner and Buchanan, Washington Park East. 10722 E. Washington St, Indianapolis, IN. All are welcome to attend and honor the life of a man who left a mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
