Gary W. Chavers of Cape Coral, FL, passed away on July 3, 2021 at the age of 78. He was born in Danville, IL to parents, Warren and Opal (Meitzler) Chavers. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management. In 1965 he joined the General Motors Corporation and began a 36 year career with the company in multiple management positions with the Guide Lamp Division in Anderson, Indiana, as Executive Vice President (GM) Sung San Co. Ltd in Korea and as International Business Development Manager in Korea, China, Japan and Australia. Gary was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, First Assembly of God in Ft Myers, FL, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 3000, and the American Legion. He completed four years of ROTC at Purdue which led to his passion for flying and obtaining his private pilot license. He also enjoyed traveling, golf, and anything involving planes, trains, and automobiles. He loved going to the Indiana state fair and enjoying an ice cream and tenderloins. Gary is survived by his wife, Jackie Streit-Chavers; children, Bruce and Laura (James), with his first wife Mary; brother, Gordon (Susan) and sister, Jane; step-children: Ed (Julie), Joan, Sherrie (Brian) and Laurie; step-grandchildren: Eddie, Josh, Ali, Jamie, Jacob, Catherine and James; and many other loving extended family members and friends. Friends may call from 10am until 12 Noon, Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Flanner Buchanan-Carmel (325 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel, IN), where funeral services will immediately follow beginning at 12 Noon. Burial will be at 10 am on Wednesday, July 14, at West Lebanon Cemetery (West Lebanon, IN). Memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s memory to Stepping Stones For Veterans (located in Anderson, IN), Wounded Warrior Project, or the Humane Society.
