Gary Richard Major

Gary Richard Major, 70, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on October 31, 2022. He was born on August 21, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Richard and Catherine (Kay) Major.  Gary grew up in Carmel, Indiana, graduating from Carmel High School in 1970.  He lived much of his life as a Carmel resident, where he and his family owned and operated the Carmel Car Wash.

Gary fully believed in having a good time and filled much of his life with a variety of hobbies and interests. He attended Arthur Murray, where he thoroughly enjoyed the “disco era” as a competitive ballroom dancer. Gary also enjoyed spending time deep sea fishing and flying his airplane.  He loved spending hours playing video games and card games, and also sponsored and played in a bowling league at Woodland Bowl for many years.

Gary also loved to travel, taking countless vacations with his family to Disney World, and also loved trips to Charleston, South Carolina.

Gary was a die-hard hometown sports fan and attended nearly every Colts game as a season ticket holder for decades.  He also never missed a Pacers game, and was faithful to these teams, no matter what.

Of all the hobbies and interests he held near and dear, Gary cherished his family more than anything. There was no doubt that he loved being a dad, and eventually “Poppy”, and if you were one of his people, you never doubted that you were loved.  His family will very much miss and always cherish memories of this sweet man, whose heart held so much simple, pure kindness and love.

He is survived by his children, Brooke (Christopher) Carlson and Brandy Struble; grandchildren, Ashton, Seth, Cayman, and Avery; sisters Carol Waite and Donna Burgher; his wife of many years, Kathy Major; his loving sister-in-law and caretaker, Malinda Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 7, from 11am to 1pm with a Funeral Service following at 1pm, at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel, IN 46032.
