Garth F Hayes

Garth F. Hayes 81 Indianapolis, passed away March 14, 2018.  Garth was born February 23, 1937 in Saskatchewan, Canada to the late Charles R and Gladys Hayes. Garth moved the U.S. in 1958 and then married the love of his life Louise A. Chastain on July 11, 1959.  One of Garth’s biggest achievements was becoming a United States Citizen.

Garth was a former professional hockey player playing for several different teams and particularly the Indianapolis Chiefs Hockey team in the 1961-62 season. He also coached the Indiana University Hockey team in the 80’s. Garth retired from National Wine and Spirits.  He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing golf and ran the Indianapolis Mini Marathon several times. Garth treasured his family and friends and loved cats and dogs. He is survived by his wife Louise, son Brian (Lisa) Hayes and daughter Michelle Hayes.  Donations can be made to the Humane Society of your choice. Visitation will be held Saturday March 17, 2018 from 5-8pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East. Funeral services will be Sunday March 18, 2018 at 11 am Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East.
