Garry R. Schoening

Garry R. Schoening 80 of Indianapolis passed away December 14, 2018. Garry was born in Evansville, IN to Gilbert George and Dorothy Marie (Burdette) Schoening. Garry served our country in the United States Air Force. Garry worked at Indianapolis Weir Cook Airport as an Air Traffic Controller from 1958 to 1981 and then began working at the downtown United States Post Office where he retired in 1988. Garry was a perfectionist which gave him an advantage to achieve 6 perfect 300 series bowling games and a 299 and a 298 game. In 2011 Garry had the honor to hit a hole in 1 at Thatcher Golf Course where he was affectionately known that day as “Ace”. He was an active member of the Men’s Senior Bowling League and Golf League. Garry met the love of his life and married Florence Codalata on January 23, 1960. Garry was preceded in death by his three siblings; Connie Richardt, JoAnn Bowers and Betty Ripplemeier. Calling will be held on Saturday December 22, 2018 at Flanner Buchanan-Floral Park 425 North Holt Road from 11 am to 2 pm followed by the funeral service at 2 pm. Entombment will be in Floral Park Cemetery. Garry is survived by his loving wife; Florence Schoening, his children; Dree (Randy Miller) Munns, Susan (Matt) Vest and Garry “Andy” Schoening, his brothers; Larry (Jane) Schoening and Michael (Norma) Schoening, and his grandsons; Jacob Munns, Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin Munns, Senior Airman Joshua Munns and Connor Vest and Ryan Miller. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Shelbi Record for all her love and support and care she has shown to Garry and to the Schoening family.
