Gail Elizabeth Ammons, 77, returned to her heavenly home on February 11, 2022 after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her husband and friends and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and gave her peace. Gail is survived by her husband, Albert Ammons. Gail was born to the late George and June Foster in Fitchburg, MA on October 4, 1944. She was a life-long Boston Red Sox fan. She worked in various administrative position for the United States Army, US Geological survey and the United States Navy. Gail met the love of her life, Albert “Al” Ammons in 1976 while she was working in Hawaii and he was temporarily stationed in Oahu for training and support of the Fleet Intelligence Center Pacific from his home in California. They met while he was in Hawaii, had a long-distance whirlwind courtship once he returned to California and married on April 2, 1977. The Ammons moved to Indianapolis in 1999 and made their home there ever since. Gail was an animal lover. She and Al raised and showed prize winning Siamese cats. She worked at Marine World Africa USA in California relishing in the presence of exotic animals. She finished her working career at the Indianapolis Zoo working as a docent in the orangutan house. Al and Gail hosted a number of exchange students and have fond memories of their antics. They built lifelong relationships with the students, their friends and their families. Gail was a devoted Catholic, practicing at St. Monica Catholic Church, Indianapolis, IN, where her funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 19 at 2 p.m. The service will be livestreamed on the St. Monica Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/saintmonicaindy .
