Fred Chafin

Fred Chafin, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

He was born on December 13, 1939 in Omar, WV to the late Josh and Eva Mae (Curry) Chafin.  He was a 1958 graduate of Logan High School in West Virginia and served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1958 – 1961.  Fred attended Northwestern University and graduated from the University of Indianapolis.  He retired from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Indianapolis Office, in February 1999.

Fred is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Elaine (Dingess) Chafin; daughter, Elizabeth Anne Chafin Pribik; son-in-law, John August Pribik, Jr.; grandson, Randall Earl Delk, Jr.; granddaughter, Hannah Olivia Pribik; 2 great-grandchildren, Hailey Kaylin Delk and Gabriel Liam Delk; step-grandson, John August Pribik III.  Fred was one of 12 children; he is survived by siblings, Betty Jane Chafin Day, Doris Jean Chafin Maynard, Lila Lou Chafin Maynard, Linda Leigh Chafin Morgan, Janet Denise Chafin Kula, Billy Ray Chafin.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Glenn Chafin Holcombe; and brothers, Josh “Buddy” Chafin, Jr., Kenneth Keith Chafin and Charles Edwin Chafin.
