Frank Gilbert Rankin Iii

Frank “Gil” Rankin III, 84, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away June 22, 2018. He was born June 10, 1934 in Louisville, Kentucky to Frank and Sally Rankin; one of two sons.

He graduated from duPont Manual High School in 1952. He went on to attend the JB Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville. He spent his career in the grain business; he was a grain merchandiser for Indiana Farm Bureau Corporation and went on to become the vice president of grain operations for Country Mark Co-Op (formerly Indiana Farm Bureau Corporation). Frank was a member of a Louisville chapter of Masons, Kentucky Colonels, as well as a member of Mystics Mardi Gras Group in Orange Beach. He spent several months a year participating in Mardi gra events. He enjoyed golfing and boats. He was preceded in death by wives Betty Ann and Sheila but he was lucky enough to find love again. He married wife, Barbara, after a whirlwind romance of 4 months. Family remembers Frank as a good husband, father, and grandfather. He was kind, considerate, and was always willing to help others. Frank was one of a kind and will be truly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Sally; wives, Betty Ann and Sheila; brother, Jay T. Rankin; daughter, Paula Suddith. Surviving to cherish his memory are wife, Barbara; children, Buck (Mary) Rankin, Mark (Donna) Rankin, Tricia (Jeff) Halcomb; grandchildren, Tara, Ben, Lynsey, Frank, Daniel, Debbie, Deanna, Rachell, and Kayla; 9 great-grandchildren as well as a host of extended family members and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service Monday, June 25 at 11 AM at Flanner Buchanan – Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46221, with a memorial gathering beginning at 10 AM.
