Frank C Tinsley passed on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.
He was born on May 25, 1939, in Indianapolis to the late Frank Whitaker and Georgeanna (Mercer) Tinsley. Frank graduated from Shortridge Highschool in 1957 where he met his wife, Virginia Gray; to whom he was happily married for 57 years. He received his Bachelor's in Zoology from Indiana University in 1964; and began his career with Eli Lilly two years earlier in 1962. During his long career, he authored many scientific papers and was listed as an inventor on three U.S. patents.
Frank was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church for 44 years and served the church in a variety of capacities including trustee, finance committee chair and Sunday school teacher. He loved camping with his family; as well as the many Boy Scouts he mentored as Scout Master. Frank was a member of the Firecrafter service organization of Boy Scouts of America. Frank loved the outdoors, particularly hiking and canoeing. He climbed Longs Peak at Rocky Mountain over 4 times, each time with members of his family. He had a passion for canoeing and won many awards as a member of both the United States Canoe Association, Inc.; and its Indiana division. In his years of involvement with the Central Indiana Woodworking Association, they made thousands of toys for distribution to children through various service agencies.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia “Ginny” Tinsley; children, Nancy (Bob Stanley) Tinsley and Frank (Brenda) Tinsley; 4 grandsons, Steven, Luke, Drew, Andrew; 4 granddaughters, Tiffany, Kristina, Jennifer, Melissa; 2 great-granddaughters, Lily and Emily. Frank is also survived by siblings, Eric (Carolyn) Tinsley, George Tinsley and Ruth (Dick) Godsey. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Mark Tinsley.
A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Epworth United Methodist Church at 3pm with visitation beginning at 1:00pm.
